How the mirror effect actually works

Reflective film does not know which side is which — it simply reflects toward whichever side is brighter. In daylight the outside is brighter, so someone standing on your sidewalk sees a mirror while you look out at your yard. At night, with your lamps on and the street dark, the situation flips. Anyone who tells you a mirror film gives 24-hour privacy is selling you something.

Getting nighttime privacy too

The realistic answers are blinds or curtains after dark, or a frosted or decorative film on the windows where privacy matters at night — bathrooms, sidelights, ground-floor bedrooms. We usually spec reflective film on the big daytime-living glass and frosted film on the specific openings that need privacy around the clock.
