Tesla & EV Window Tinting in Smithfield, NC
Tesla, Rivian, Mach-E, Ioniq and other EV owners in Johnston and Wake County.
The short answer
Electric vehicles need non-metallic ceramic film. Metal-based tint can interfere with the antennas, sensors and connectivity EVs rely on, and the huge glass roofs on cars like the Model 3 and Model Y turn the cabin into a greenhouse that drains range through the climate system.
Glass roofs are the real problem
A full-length glass roof looks fantastic and cooks you in July. Factory glass usually handles UV but passes a lot of infrared energy, and the heat lands directly on the people in the car. A ceramic roof film cuts that load substantially, which means less air conditioning, and on an EV, less climate draw means more usable range on a hot day.
Why metal film is the wrong choice for an EV
EVs are dense with antennas and sensors — cellular, GPS, keyless entry, driver-assist radar and camera systems. Metallized film can attenuate those signals. Ceramic film has no conductive layer, so you get high heat rejection with no risk to connectivity or the driver-assist package you paid for.
- Non-metallic — no interference with sensors or connectivity
- Glass roof film for Model 3, Model Y and similar
- Reduces climate load, which helps hot-weather range
- Blocks up to 99% of UV
Precision matters on modern EV glass
Frameless doors and one-piece side glass leave no margin for a sloppy edge. Everything is pattern-cut, the doors are prepped properly and the film is tucked rather than trimmed short. We also set expectations on cure time — on a car with frameless windows, following the no-roll-down window is not optional.
Common questions
+Will window tint hurt my EV's sensors or range?
Ceramic film contains no metal, so it does not interfere with sensors or connectivity. It generally helps hot-weather range slightly by reducing the cooling load on the cabin.
+Can you tint a Tesla glass roof?
Yes. Roof film is one of the most requested jobs we do on Teslas, and it makes the biggest single comfort difference in summer.
+How long do I wait before rolling the windows down?
Give it a few days, longer in cool or humid weather. On frameless-window cars this matters more than usual — we will tell you exactly what to do at pickup.
+Is the front windshield an option on an EV?
A near-clear ceramic windshield film is available and pairs well with roof film if heat is your main complaint.
