Windshield Tint & Visor Strips in Smithfield, NC
Commuters, delivery drivers and anyone who fights sun glare on US-70 or I-95.
The short answer
Your windshield is the single largest piece of glass on the car and the biggest source of cabin heat. A clear or near-clear ceramic windshield film rejects infrared heat without darkening your view, and a tinted strip above the AS-1 line handles low-sun glare — both are legal options in North Carolina when installed correctly.
Clear ceramic windshield film
A high-visible-light ceramic film looks essentially clear but rejects a large share of infrared energy. On a car with tinted side glass, the windshield is usually where the remaining heat is coming from — treating it is what finally makes the A/C win on a July afternoon. It also cuts UV exposure on your arms and face during a daily commute.
Visor strips and the AS-1 line
North Carolina allows a tinted strip at the top of the windshield down to the AS-1 line marked on the glass by the manufacturer. That strip does the heavy lifting on sunrise and sunset glare heading east and west on US-70, and it looks factory when it is cut to the right depth. We follow the AS-1 marking rather than guessing.
- Near-clear ceramic options for the full windshield
- Tinted sun strip cut to the factory AS-1 line
- Reduces eye fatigue and dashboard heat
- Blocks up to 99% of UV through the front glass
Windshield work is the hardest install in the shop
A windshield is large, curved and unforgiving — any contamination shows. We do them in a clean bay with the glass properly prepped, and we are honest about vehicles where sensor housings, rain sensors or heated wiper parks change the approach. If a windshield is chipped or already cracked, film is not the fix and we will tell you.
Common questions
+Is windshield tint legal in North Carolina?
A tinted strip is allowed down to the AS-1 line. Clear or near-clear films that meet the state's light transmission requirement can also be applied to the full windshield. We install to the law and explain the limits before we start.
+Does clear windshield film actually reduce heat?
Yes. Heat rejection comes from infrared blocking, not darkness. A quality clear ceramic film noticeably lowers dash and cabin temperature while leaving visibility unchanged.
+Will windshield film affect my rain sensor or camera?
We work around sensor housings and camera mounts. On some vehicles that means a small relief cut; we go over it with you at drop-off.
+Can you tint a windshield that has a chip?
We recommend repairing or replacing damaged glass first. Applying film over a chip can spread the damage and you would pay twice.
