The short answer
A coated car needs a pH-neutral two-bucket hand wash every couple of weeks, no brush-style automatic tunnels, and a coating-safe drying aid. Done that way, the hydrophobics and gloss hold for years; done wrong, you can dull a coating in a single season.
The wash routine that keeps it alive
Rinse first to knock grit off. Two buckets with grit guards, a pH-neutral soap, a clean microfiber mitt, top panels first and lower panels last. Dry with a plush drying towel or filtered blower — never let hard water sit and evaporate on a hot panel, because that is how water spots etch even on a coating.

What kills a coating early
Brush-style automatic washes are the fastest way to swirl a coated car. Harsh wheel acids and degreasers strip the top surface. Bird droppings and bug guts left baking for a week will etch through. And parking under a sap-dropping tree is a losing battle no coating can win for you.
Maintenance visits and refreshes
A periodic decontamination wash and a topper coat restore beading and add life. Bring the car in annually and we will tell you honestly whether it needs anything — sometimes the answer is that it is fine and you should keep doing what you are doing.
